WANTED: Trikes / Tricycles

We have a lot of people asking for tricycles. These tend to be elderly folk and the less able bodied. If anyone has any tricycles they would like to donate then we would happily receive them and get them re:cycled for those needing them.

Thank you! =)A red tricycle

Farmer John’s

We attended the downhill race weekend at Farmer Johns at the weekend and had a van there to accept donations to our cause. Mike Jones very kindly donated some parts, many thanks to him and everyone that came to say Hello to us on Saturday.
We will  attend other events in the future and will notify participants through the organisers. If we are there then we’d be pleased to accept any parts or bikes that you may no longer want…

Work placements and charity bike builds…

Tom from Ryburne School really enjoyed the work placement he did with us. We instructed him in the art of bringing an old back to life and the mechanics involved with this. Here we see Tom pictured on the bike he stripped down and rebuilt during his placement…

We have also just completed a charity bike build for Hannah who is riding from Lands End to John O’ Groats to raise money for the NSPCC. We have built the bike for free and it will be auctioned at the end of Hannah’s ride with the proceeds going to the NSPCC.

Northwest Championships

A volunteer from Cycle:Recycle will be taking part in the first ever Northwest Championships in association with Northwest Mountain Bike Centre, which is being held at Farmer John’s in Stockport on the 28th & 29th May 2011.

We will also have a van at the event and are ready and willing to cart away any bikes or bits and pieces that you would like to donate! So if you’re attending why not get rid of some of that stuff clogging up your garage while you’re at it…

Helping out…

Mandeep Kaler, who works for West Yorkshire Police asked us to source a bike for her as none of the Policy Cycles were the right size. Here we see Mandeep happily pictured with a bike she can successfully catch criminals on, donated by Cycle:Recycle…

West Yorkshire Police also very kindly helped us out recently, by donating 18 unclaimed lost or stolen bikes for us to do up, so a big thank you to them!

MegAvalanche Race 2011!

This year one of our own volunteers will be competing in the Megavalanche race held at Alpe de Hoez, France. He will be doing the 3500 ft decent on a semi-recycled bike!

“The Megavalanche Race combines elements of both Downhill and Cross-Country Racing and requires many different mountain biking fundamentals, such as strength, dexterity, endurance and riding spirit!”

Starting on the 8th of July, get in touch to wish him good luck!

Not only that, he’s now doing The Avalanche Cup a couple of days before it too!
